Golfers- Do Not read this!
It still makes me laugh, although my husband has yet to recover.
It all started as a nice family scene; Grandparents, Dad and triplet Grand-kids (2 boys and a girl) on the driving range. Grandfather, the avid golfer, was showing each kid how to hold the club and how to swing. He was using his own clubs since I had forgot to bring my shorter, less expensive, old fashioned steel clubs. The lessons were going well. Several golfers waiting for a Tournament to start had come to observe the Triplets chopping away at the balls. Of course, my “avid golfer” was going to golf in the same Tournament.
One of the Triplets, Travis, had a nice swing; for a 12 year old who had never held a golf club. He was using a 5 wood; made of titanium or graphite or something fancy. They were all having fun. Finally, Travis connected; I saw the swing and the ball take to the air. It was going; I knew it would go 150 yards or more. I started to smile; then suddenly I realized I was also watching the club head taking to the air. It was also going…………..
The club head landed near the 100 yard mark; the ball went past the 150 yard marker. The “avid golfer” stopped and stared at the range. After a very long pause, he stopped all play on the driving range. He marched out and picked up his club head and walked in silence to the Club House. Meanwhile, I swapped the woods for irons and the Triplets continued practicing. My golfer returned and mumbled something to me about a Tournament and I decided it was time for the Tripletts to practice putting.
I was proud of him; he never yelled or exhibited any emotion about the soaring head and later he commented to Travis on what a great hit that he had made. He did well in the Tournament and he will recover after he buys a new golf club.
